Interns - The office of Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (NE-01) is currently seeking 2 full-time interns for the summer of 2010 in the Washington, D.C. office. Responsibilities include conducting tours of the Capitol, answering the telephones, organizing and inputting constituent correspondence, and aiding legislative staff on special projects. Interns are also given the opportunity to attend hearings and briefings to enhance their experience on Capitol Hill. Successful candidates will be highly motivated, detail oriented, and able to multi-task. This is an unpaid internship that, dependant upon your institution, may be eligible for college credit. Senior Legislative Assistant - Congressman John Fleming, M.D. of Louisiana is seeking a Senior Legislative Assistant. Minimum requirement is 12 months or more of service as a Legislative Assistant in a House or Senate GOP office. Well qualified applicants will have a strong understanding of the legislative process and possess exceptional written and oral communication skills. Confidence, poise, and a strong work ethic are required. Core responsibilities will include managing a comprehensive portfolio of legislative issues, developing and executing legislative initiatives, keeping the Congressman apprised of relevant policy developments, meeting with constituents and other entities, and working with the Legislative Correspondent to edit and approve correspondence. SLA will work closely with the Legislative Director, Communications Director, and Chief of Staff on a full range of policy and messaging initiatives. Experience in Health Care a plus. Communications Director – The Office of Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) is seeking a Communications Director. This position is responsible for formulating and implementing press, new media, and constituent outreach for the Member and the office. As the formal spokesperson and media liaison for the Congressman, this person will develop relationships with media contacts; draft press releases, speeches, and letters to the editor; update the website; etc. The ideal candidate will be pro-active and creative with constituent outreach. Excellent written and oral skills are required. An ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines is necessary. Virginia ties are helpful but not required. New Media/Online Communications Advisor - Southern conservative member seeks a New Media/Online Communications Advisor. The individual (working under the Communications Director) will be responsible for expanding new media/online communications outreach. In particular, this individual will be responsible for managing (and developing content for) the member’s website, twitter, and facebook page. This is a newly-created position. As such, this new staff member will have wide latitude to work on 1) improving and expanding the existing new media/online presence of the members and 2) pitching new opportunities for new media/online outreach. The ideal candidate is creative, flexible, and eager. Candidates must be able to successfully multitask (including special projects, as assigned) and have excellent writing skills.
