New TSA Imaging Machines Deployed at Charlotte-Douglas Airport

For those of you who fly out of Douglas airport, starting April 20th, we get the new advanced imaging technology machines (AIT's). Following info was taken from TSA memo issued this past week. FYI:

Beginning on Tuesday, April 20th, 2010 TSA will begin the use of Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) to screen passengers at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). AIT can detect a wide range of metallic and non-metallic threats, including weapons, explosives and other items that a passenger is carrying on his or her person, without physical contact. This technology is an integral part of TSA's effort to ensure travel remains safe and secure by staying ahead of evolving threats. More information on how AIT works, what passengers can expect at the checkpoint and the extensive privacy protections in place can be found here on TSA's website -http://www.tsa.gov/approach/tech/imaging_technology.shtm

  1. This technology will eventually be unobtrusive especially as it becomes more computer automated. It is already less intrusive for me because of my hip replacement.
