Fall interns - Congressman Tim Murphy (PA-18) is currently accepting applications from current college students or recent college graduates wishing to gain experience in a fast-paced office for a full-time or part-time fall semester internship. We are seeking applicants with strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and a high degree of professionalism. In addition to supporting the legislative and administrative staff with day-to-day activities, interns will conduct Capitol tours, attend legislative briefings, assist with constituent calls and requests, process incoming mail, and conduct legislative research. The internship is unpaid, but students will have an opportunity to earn college credit and gain valuable Capitol Hill experience. Pennsylvania and district ties are preferred but not required. Internship - Congressman Steve Austria (OH-7) is currently seeking interns for the fall 2010 semester for his Washington, DC, Springfield and Lancaster offices. This internship will provide students with the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in a Congressional office and a greater understanding of the legislative process. Intern responsibilities generally include answering phones, logging and drafting constituent correspondence, and aiding staff with various projects. Intern duties in the Washington, DC office also include scheduling and conducting tours of the U.S. Capitol building, and attending briefings and hearings. We will consider persons with a range of computer knowledge, but the ideal person would have skills that match the following: intuitive knowledge of electronic hardware design, structure, and the ability to troubleshoot malfunctions and make informed recommendations for upgrades and new technology that could be employed to streamline the office; also, the ability to administer and troubleshoot Microsoft Windows Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, and Microsoft Office products, as well as some some knowledge of web programming, scripting, and database management.
